Biol. Evol. (2015年影響因子:13.649)、Bioinformatics (2016年影響因子: 7.307)、Mol. Ecol. Res. (2016年影響因子: 7.332)、Environ. Research Team for “Biological and environmental data Processing” of Xiangtan University
Fractal geometry is a subject which studies irregular geometrical shapes with fractal dimensions. It is also called a geometry describing nature. After it was established, it quickly caused attention from different fields. Not only in theory, but also in practice, it has important value. Fractal and related methods are important methods in nonlinear science. Bioinformatics is one of the important and active branch of biology, and also a multidisciplinary research field of biology, mathematics, physics, computer science and statistics. Fractal and statistical methods have been widely used in bioinformatics. The group team includes Prof. Zuguo Yu (Hunan provincial Lotus distinguished professor), Prof. Jinyan Li and Prof. Yuchu Tian (both of them are distinguished professor of Hunan Talents Program), Prof. Vo Anh (Hunan Famous overseas Scholar), Prof. Xikui Wang, A/prof. Guosheng Han, A/prof. Shaoming Zhu and Dr Jinlong Liu.
Our group is devoted to investigate the applications of fractal and related methods to the theoretical and practical problems in time series analysis and complex networks, and the applications to the problems of molecular evolution, protein folding, prediction of protein structures and functions in bioinformatics. Over the years, our group published more than 150 papers in the journals such as Mol. Biol. Evol. (impact factor for 2015: 13.649), Bioinformatics (impact factor for 2016: 7.307), Mol. Ecol. Res. (impact factor for 2016: 7.332), Environ. Modell. Softw. (impact factor for 2016: 4.404), Mol. Phylogenet. Evol. (impact factor for 2016: 4.419), Int. J. Climatol., BMC Evol. Biol., BMC System. Biol., BMC Bioinformatics, Fuzzy Sets and Systems, J. Chem. Phys., Phys. Rev. E, J. Stat. Mech., Chaos, J. Geophys. Res., J. Theor. Biol.. Our research was supported by 8 grants from Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and 1 grant from Chinese Program for Changjiang Scholars and Innovative Research Team in University (PCSIRT), and we got 2 Hunan provincial second prizes in natural science (in 2009, 2017). More than 50 PhDs and masters have been trained, several students among them were awarded the Thousands of young people in the country, excellent master's thesis in Hunan, and the special prize of the graduate principal of the Xiangtan University.
The leader of the team, Professor Zu-Guo Yu was born in Zhuzhou in 1970, and received B. Sc. degree in 1991, M. Sc. Degree in 1994 from Xiangtan University, and the Ph.D. degree in 1997 from Fudan University; then he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Institute of Theoretical Physics of Chinese Academy of Science from 1997 to 1999, as a full time research fellow in Queensland University of Technology for 6 years. Currently, he is the deputy director of the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Computing and Information Processing of Ministry of Education, and the director of Educational Administration office of Xiangtan University. He is also a Hunan provincial Lotus distinguished professor and adjunct professor of Queensland University of Technology. He is devoted to investigate the applications of fractal and related methods to the theoretical and practical problems in time series analysis and complex networks.
